Meet Pastor Porter Ross, Jr.

Around the age of 12, young Brother Porter Ross, Jr. began to sense God’s call to salvation. It happened at his childhood church, Liberal Trinity Church of God in Christ (Jackson, MS), under the leadership of the late Bishop Hollis Musgrove. During a Sunday evening service, Elder Timothy Curry asked, “Is there anyone here tonight that is not saved” and young Brother Ross immediately stood up. Although he didn’t fully comprehend salvation at the time, this marked a defining moment in his life as he became aware of the necessity of salvation.

As a small child, his mother had taught him to pray and during his adolescence, he would pray the Lord’s Prayer, as found in Matthew 6:9-13. It was around this time that young Brother Ross began to cultivate his prayer life as a conversation with God; later realizing that God had cultivated within him a prayer ministry. He continued to grow in the things of God both naturally and spiritually.
Brother Ross graduated from Callaway High School (Jackson, MS) in 1987 and enrolled at Jackson State University (Jackson, MS), where he majored in Computer Science. He met and fell in love with Sister Sonya Winters there. They married a few years later and began their life together. Soon after, God blessed them with three sons.
In 1995, at the invitation of his mother, he attended a Sunday evening service at Family Life Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of the late Elder Herman Littleton, Sr. He joined the church that night and was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost shortly afterward.

Upon the passing of Elder Herman Littleton, Jr, the church merged with Greater Deliverance Church of God In Christ (Byram, MS) under the leadership of Elder Daniel Littleton. It was here on December 5, 2008, that Deacon Ross accepted his call to the ministry.

On October 10th, 2021 Elder Ross was appointed as Pastor of Mars Hill Church of God in Christ by Bishop Daniel Littleton. Pastor Ross’ leadership module has been a blessing continuing in the rich legacy of our leaders’ past.

Professionally, he is the Engineering Team Leader at Esco Corporation (Newton, MS). Pastor Ross has been married to his beautiful wife Lady Sonya Ross for 34 years, and together they have three (3) sons , two (2) granddaughters, and one (1) grandson.
